Scion brand finally headed to Canada next September

It's official: Scion is headed to the land of Bob and Doug. Toyota's sub-brand will arrive in 45 dealerships in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver ten months from now, in September 2010. Scion's full model range will be offered -- xB, xD, and tC -- and dealers will present them in a "store within a store" concept, which makes it sound like passwords, burlesque, and moonshine will be involved.
To give you Canuck Scion mavens something to do for the next eleven months, there's a Canadian Scion website. It's a little barren right now, but after you take a quick survey it'll let you know things like the Scion badge was "created to symbolize non-conformity, authenticity and personal style." And then there are links to other Scion content, such as an interview with Motörhead, because what Scion owner doesn't love Lemmy? Canadians rejoice. Eh. Hat tip to Luc!

Not to mention crap reliability. Yeah, I know what Consumer Reports said. JD Power disagrees.

The way JD Powers counts all problems as "dependability" is why Scion gets such a crappy score. Scions usually get ordered with all kinds of random customizations so when those things don't get installed right by the dealer or are simply aftermarket level quality it all counts towards that score. Doesn't mean that it has crap reliability in the normal sense though.
And anyways JD Powers ratings are hilariously bad, just go look at the Passat's "predicted reliability" over the years and watch it magically jump when VW just happens to be paying for awards even though the predicted reliability is supposed to be based on several years of data, making it rather questionable when a car jumps from the worst score to one of the best scores.

JD Power does several different studies. The vehicle dependability study looks at certain criteria from original owners of vehicles after three years. You can't equate one study with another. They're all different.
From JD Power:
"The 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study provides information gathered from over 46,000 original owners. Performance is measured using a “problems per 100 vehicles (PP100)” metric. A lower PP100 score indicates better performance and a higher PP100 score indicates worse performance. The 2009 study covers a total of 202 total problems, broken out into eight major problem categories as follows:
Exterior
The Driving Experience
Features/Controls/Displays
Audio/Entertainment/Navigation
Seats
HVAC
Interior
Engine/Transmission"

JD Power is a joke. They gave an award in that 2007 article to the Oldsmobile Sillouette aka Chevrolet Venture in drag. Makes it difficult to take them seriously. Their awards are suspect at least if not manufacturer bought.

I know what you mean. My 2nd car was a 2004 Scion xA. I had no intention of getting it, but it was bought by my mom as a starter car. After test driving it I said I absolutely hate this car and I want nothing to do with it. Those Toyota salesmen are as slick as greased pigs. The xA I got in 2005 was used with 34,000 miles and still cost $14,000!! I guess it was worth a little more because it was Toyota "certified pre-owned" and it had alloy rims (instead of stock steel wheels), side curtain airbags and 6 disc CD changer, but still $14,000 is too much for any used car like a Scion.
The front wheels on that little xA would become jumpy at speeds above 65 mph on the highway usually and the poor quality interior cloth would leave a bad stench that stuck to your clothes long after you got out. The only thing I miss was the decent fuel economy.
I was able to trade it in less than 2 months later for a 1999 Infiniti I30 with only 16,000 miles, but only received $8,000 for the xA on trade-in, haha.

So, Judy, what did JD Power give an award to the Oldsmobile Silhouette for? Their awards are varied and you can't one with another. I say your comment is what's suspect.

Not like it matters, everything is horrifically hideously dirty during the winter and spring months anyway.
But Scions aren't bad looking at all. I've seen far worse, far far worse.

Except for Vancouver, which is clean and green year 'round.
I know what you mean though, east of the Rockies is just brown, except for the summer, when it's less brown.

Toyota is probably timing the launch of Scion in Canada with refreshed models. Makes no sense to launch the Scion brand with cars that will be getting restyled within 1-2 model years.

LOL, but I'm going to be indignant about that because I think it's even more brown in the summer, all those white snow covered fields in winter are fields of golden BROWN wheat and barley.

I really like the look of the xb, much better than the Soul imo and has better engine.

Sure why not? While all my friends were getting Civics or Acuras for modifying, I got a Corolla... just to be different. Sure, I could had gotten something else at the time but I was betting on Toyota's reputation so I could sell the Corolla two years down the stretch without taking too big of a hit. Surprisingly I took less of a hit in the pocket than I was expecting. Which meant I could buy a decent set of wheels :D
