Spy Shots: BMW 3 Series coupe and convertible get mild rhinoplasty

The 3 Series coupe and convertible have had a little surgery done and been caught post-op. The actual changes aren't monumental, but up front appear to have quite an effect on the looks. We'll wait to see the uncovered version without the tape over the headlights before final judgments are issued, but from the three-quarter view the increased sweep, the changes to the kidney grille, and the drawn headlights makes the front look a little -- forgive us for saying -- vintage Grand Am.In back the car gets revised taillights and a bumper massage. Inside expect slightly upgraded ergonomics and iDrive. The sedan and touring are rumored to get this look as well, and should appear next year.

haha, grand am, what a crappy car
I have actually noticed before that many Pontiacs and BMWs have similar grill features. That's about all the Pontiacs have in common with BMWs though. Except the G8.

I always thought that the front of the 6 series looked like a Pontiac. That's why I just can't approve of what is an otherwise nice car.

Why does it say the Sedan and Touring should get this look next year - they already had their facelift for 2009 and won't be changed until they are redone with the next gen in 2012.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. There's definitely no more exterior changes coming to any E9x 3 series after this update is released (in March of next year).
I am also skeptical about any I-Drive changes in March as well given that the 3 series got the new I-Drive accross the board for MY '09 and the for MY '10 they just added the enhanced voice commands.

Seriously, I swear Autoblog is making up its own rumors by guessing. The e90/91 already the got revised tailights, headlights, hood/bonnet, bumpers, rims, and iDrive. Hell, I test drove the LCI.

I just hope they actually make the sedan and wagon, er, excuse me, "touring" versions have the coupe front like the article suggests.

I'd rather they add the coupe rears as well (or just make them look better). I hate the way the tail lights and rear fascia look on the E90 sedans.

I am driving the new 2010 and the changes from above were delivered last week! I love it, and the gear box on the six speed is an upgrade from 2009 as well.

Any revision that evokes memories of a Grand Am is an automatic fail, ultimate driving machine or not.

Personally, I think the 3 series has gone downhill looks wise since the e46. that model is still the definitive bmw IMO.

I hope they don't keep growing the 3-Series. If someone wants a bigger sedan, they can go for the 5-Series. Same as with the Civic which has drifted very far from the proportions it had not so long ago.
BTW- Where is a 320D (Diesel) version? With oil close to $80/bbl. it should sell well.

Disregarding the awkward front end, does anyone else hate the roof lines of the hard-top convertible 3-series? I just think it looks so choppy and unplanned.
